Metaplanet, a publicly listed company from Japan, has recently expanded its Bitcoin holdings by purchasing an additional 38.6 Bitcoin for approximately ¥300 million (about $2.2 million). This latest acquisition brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 398.8 BTC, purchased for a total of ¥3.75 billion (around $27.6 million).

This strategic move follows Metaplanet’s announcement in August to raise ¥10.08 billion to invest further in Bitcoin, reflecting a continued commitment to Bitcoin as part of its corporate strategy. The company’s approach to acquiring Bitcoin mirrors that of MicroStrategy, which has also used debt to fund Bitcoin purchases.

Similarly, other companies are adopting this strategy, such as Marathon Digital Holdings, which recently raised $250 million through a convertible note offering to buy more Bitcoin, and Semler Scientific, which is also planning to raise funds for Bitcoin purchases.

By borrowing at low interest rates to buy Bitcoin, these companies can leverage the cryptocurrency’s potential appreciation while avoiding the need to liquidate existing assets.
