Ripple CEO Discusses Japan’s Blockchain Potential and Criticizes SEC Chair
Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, recently engaged with Japanese lawmaker Taira Masaaki during XRP Community Day to discuss the potential of blockchain technology in Japan. Garlinghouse praised Japan’s efforts to advance cryptocurrency and blockchain, highlighting its effective regulatory frameworks and policies that foster innovation while ensuring consumer protection. Masaaki, an advocate for Web3 and AI in Japan’s House of Representatives, emphasized the goal of leveraging blockchain to unlock Japan’s full potential.
Garlinghouse also held a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, where he criticized U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler. He noted that a recent court ruling classified XRP as not being a security, a significant victory for the crypto industry. Garlinghouse expressed skepticism about Gensler’s continued leadership and stressed the bipartisan importance of technology policy ahead of the U.S. election. Ripple’s partnership with Yonsei University was also announced to further blockchain research. Garlinghouse highlighted the importance of the Asian market, particularly Korea and Japan, for Ripple’s expansion efforts. Korean institutions are showing interest in crypto custody, and Ripple is exploring potential partnerships with local banks.
